Paddock Barn, Kendal | Lake District Wedding DJ

Fee and Matt’s Wedding at Paddock Barn

A stunning venue in the Lake District with views overlooking the gorgeous landscape. It’s situated close to both Windermere and Kendal.

The day was gorgeous and my couple opted to have a teepee. My clients saw a duo called Paper Cranes at the Kendal Calling music festival and were fortunate enough to have on their day. They played a fully acoustic set in the tepee after the Wedding Breakfast. There is a photograph below of Fee sitting between her mum and dad. It’s one of my favourites as it captures how relaxed the day was. The venue was also chosen due to its proximity to Fee’s parents.

Kodaline’s - The One was the 1st dance track and was performed by Paper Cranes. It was a close call between that and WALK THE MOON’s - Shut up and dance. Knowing this, I made sure to feature that song at a good time when I got a chance to play. It ended up being my first song after the duo’s last set. Sometimes that is a tricky transition, from band to DJ and vice-versa - but with the right information, it becomes an opportunity to further elevate the night.

Fee and Matt chose some tracks to play during the wedding breakfast, which the venue took care of. Since they already had this information ready-to-go, I asked for the link and whilst I culled lots of the ideas because they weren’t right for the night. I did gain some useful insight and picked out / extrapolated songs for ‘building the atmosphere‘ and tracks too good not to replay for the dancing. These tracks were ideal for their intended purpose during the food ;-)

Broadly speaking, Fee's tastes are poppy and up to date. And Matt is indie. Along the way, we had a little House and 90s dance. Whilst we were mostly contemporary that night, we did have a few 70s tracks and 80s requests for some guests, and variety.

A few slow numbers to round things off before we finished with some high-energy songs - a bit like an encore.

The timeline is shown below, on a pallet, to match the theme. If you want to discuss ideas for your day, get in touch here:

A total surprise to Fee, but Matt and his dad had arranged for a confetti canon. It was a great moment which added to the fun on the packed dance-floor. Matt and his dad also arranged for additional ‘disco’ lighting. It’s rare I play in such white rooms, and I’m used to just my lighting, so lots of times the lighting effects caught my eye and added to the ambience of the space.

How I got this wedding?

I had DJ'd in London at an event that Matt’s parents were at. So when looking into DJ’s for the wedding based relatively close to the venue (compared to Suffolk) I had a good chat with Fee and Matt and ended up being chosen. I also knew Matt’s parents as they are friends of a band that I used to Live Sound Engineer for all around the UK.

Wedding DJ Review from Matt

Adam was extremely attentive and willing to understand what we wanted to achieve with our wedding entertainment. His intuition meant he quickly understood our needs.

He came up with solutions to enhance the evening entertainment. He played the music that we had requested, judging the room for the best time to play certain songs. Eg. he waited for both the Bride and Groom to be in the room to play certain songs that had been requested.

Adam was punctual and happy to get involved.

Photographs, reactions and moments are below. There’s too many selfies as usual. Also, I’m sure I have some video of Paper Cranes from the day, so keep an eye on my social media, or get in touch for recommendations.

Below that, is a video from Rachel Owen Wedding Films.

Venue: Paddock Barn
Wedding Photographer and keen cyclist: Dan Monaghan
Wedding Film: RO Films
Musical Duo: Paper Cranes

I love playing alongside (bands and duos) and with (Sax, Bongos, singers) different live music acts.
